John Denver, a singer-songwriter from Colorado who was a specialist in folk pop music has touched the hearts of millions. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. is a New Mexican born artist and songwriter who fell in love with Colorado. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have attracted many people to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was inducted into the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. Denver has become the image of Colorado for a lot of people around the world. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other part of the globe, one from New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads, co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time in folk groups, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff wrote the song along with Johnny Cash in mind but the moment Denver was introduced to an earlier version it was clear that the track could become a hit single. The song was recorded just several weeks after it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
